Components of the Work Education Program
The concept of "a job for life" is fading as our workplaces grow ever more responsive to the accelerated pace of technological change and shifts in the global economy. A "career" is now seen as the process of managing life, learning and work across the lifespan. This means that lifelong learning is no longer an abstract concept but a vital necessity for navigating an increasingly fluid and complex economic landscape.
The Career and Transition program facilitates access to young people aged 13-19 years to a range of career and transitions support services, such as:
- discussing your career choices;
- providing you with tools to help you along the way e.g. looking for a job;
- showing you the pathways that are available to you;
- helping you to develop an exit plan;
- promoting Vocational Education & Training (VAT) pathways; and
- linking you with other people or services to help you manage your career development

Australian Career Development Studies (ACDS)
Australian Career Development Studies are for anyone interested in maximising their own career development or helping others do so. The three programs are holistic, self-contained and pitched at an introductory level, although they differ in complexity, detail and the time needed to complete them. All are available in web-based and CD-ROM formats free of charge. A charge is made to participants seeking accreditation or recognition of prior learning.
The three programs are:
- Awareness of Career Development—an introductory program about the basics of career development, delivered in a brief, enjoyable and easily understood format
- Elements of Career Service Delivery—three accreditable units (plus an assessment module) at Certificate IV level of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), for people currently involved, or wanting to be involved, in delivering career development services to individuals in the community
- Career Development Studies—an accreditable unit, including an assessment module, at Postgraduate Certificate level. This program is useful to anyone wishing to expand and consolidate their career development learning.
